Your Shot FAQ

I have never DJed before, can I still enter?

YES! This competition is designed for you! If you are selected as one of the state’s 30 contestants, you will receive full training and all the skills needed to take to the stage and perform your very first club set!

Do I need to be 18 to enter?

YES, all entrants must be over the age of 18 by the time the registration days are held in your state.

How long is the training?

You will receive 2x 3 hour sessions each week for four weeks with training sessions running at multiple times each week for anyone who has work, uni, school etc.

How long will the competition go for?

The Californian competition will start in May and finish in September 2015.

I am currently not living in California where the competition is being held. Am I still able to enter?

YES. You are welcome to enter Your Shot, however you will be required to attend the audition day in Los Angeles and each of the 8 training sessions across the four weeks – not to mention the event. If you’re not from California and can’t make the move, let us know where you’re from and we will let you know first when we make it to your state.

If I get in, are there any restrictions on the type of music I should play?

There are no restrictions whatsoever! All genres/types of music are welcome in the competition!

I've been DJing for some time. Do I have too much experience to be in the competition?

Your Shot is open to those with limited DJ experience, which includes those who have performed at a festival or who have had a club residency.

I work full time, can I still enter?

Yes you can. You do however need to be available for training which will run for 2x 3 hour sessions each week for a total of 4 weeks (we understand that our contestants work and will have a variety of available times to accommodate).

Can we use laptops for Serato, Traktor or other DJ software during the competition?

No. The contestants will be taught on pioneer CDJ’s and mixers for the 4 weeks. This equipment will be the same on the event days and all contestants must use the same equipment.

I have registered in previous years but never made it past the interview stage, can I enter again this year?

Yes! Your Shot is open to anyone who has registered and interviewed in previous years as long as they did not make it further than the interview stage of the competition.

I have registered but am unable to make the interview day. Is there another option?

No. Unfortunately due to time constraints and the volume of people that need to be interviewed there can only be the one interview day in each state which must be attended for a chance to move onto the next stage of the competition.

What do I need to bring to the registration day?

A photo of yourself for us to hang on to – nothing else is required. You can bring a friend along to keep you company.

Can I register if I'm from another country?

You must be an American Citizen or permanent resident aged 18 years or over.

I'm going away during the competition. Will this impact my involvement if I'm a contestant?

To be a part of the competition you will be required to attend every weekly training session (six in total), as well as fortnightly meetings (four in total) and the event day. Attendance is 100% mandatory – failure to comply will result in your immediate withdrawal from the competition.

What does the training involve?

The training course involves 2x 3 hour tutorial each week for a total of four weeks. It covers all the essentials to get you confidently up on stage at the Event Day.

I registered but now my friend wants to enter with me as a duo. Is this possible?

Yes. Your friend must register online as well and make sure you’re both interviewed as a duo.

I entered the wrong details on the registration form, does this matter?

If it’s critical you may register again. If not, talk to your interviewer at the registration day.

Can I enter as an individual and a duo?

You can register as a solo and a duo, however you must be interviewed as a duo.

How long will the registration day run for?

The registration day will run from 10am til late afternoon. Interviews will be five minutes long and be on a first come, first serve basis.
